MYT 2012: deadline reached!

Hi everyone!

As many of you know, we finally reached the due date of the competition which was on March 1. We were trying to make as much as we were able to make to have a competitive number of models. So at this point we finished 68 models, maybe this is not a really huge number for someone, but a lot of them were quite tough to make to have all the significant details on them. Overall we think we did a quite good job, the only one thing that we regret is that we didn't have enough time to make more models, but as you know, we are students as well and have a VERY BUSY semester now. It was quite hard to manage studying and making models in a fast pace. Anyway we want to present you the last models we made:

We want to thank you for your all support and comments and good luck everyone with your towns!
And finger crossed for Stamford! ;-)

cheers,

New update!

Hi everyone!

Since we both started with the Spring Semester at our college, it is really hard to find enough time to model our city. That’s because the classes that we are taking require a lot of attention too. Therefore, we were really glad to manage finishing another block in Stamford! We are still working on couple of new models, but we wish we could have a little bit more time to do it… However, we are definitely going to make at least one update before March 1st. Stay tuned and thanks for viewing our blog!

Old Town Hall

Hi everyone!

Today we created a 3D model of another significant building in our city. We want to show you Old Town Hall of Stamford:

The original Town Hall of Stamford, Connecticut was opened on November 1, 1871 on the corner of Atlantic and Main Street. It was a red brick building in Second Empire and Victorian Gothic style. Unfortunately in February of 1904, the structure caught fire and all but the shell remained as ash. In 1905 architects Edgar Josselyn and Nathan Mellon were hired to design a new town hall, which is the one that remains today.

It is a three-story building in Beaux Arts style, which was a very popular style of architecture at the turn of the twentieth century. It includes floor to ceiling windows, a stunning grand divided staircase with iron-rod railings, a Czechoslovakian glass ceiling above the staircase, terrazzo tile flooring and scagliola plaster on the lobby walls. The outside is limestone faced, flanked with Corinthian columns, and topped with a large clock tower. Its original purpose was to house the office of the mayor, city officials, the police station, courthouse, and even a horse stable.

Rebuilt Town Hall

After World War II though, this building simply could not accommodate the increasing demand for municipal services and offices in the growing City of Stamford. The city officials and Mayor got dispersed to other buildings on and off Atlantic Street. In 1961 the city purchased 429 Atlantic Street from Hartford Electric Light Company to serve as offices for the growing government. By 1963, the only city operations left in Old Town Hall were the town clerk, the judge of probate, and the registrars of voters.

In 1972 there was a movement to preserve this beautiful building and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1986, the city purchased the modern office building at 888 Washington Boulevard and moved all the city government offices and the Mayor to this current location. From around 1988 till today, OTH has remained vacant. In 2009 was completed an expansion of the building, was added a new wing with modern looking glass facade.

Main St and Bank St completed!

Hi everyone!

Today we finally finished two important streets in town - Main St and Bank St. They are part of The Downtown Stamford Historic District. It is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The originally listed area included part of all Atlantic, Main, Bank and Bedford Streeets and examples of Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals, Late Victorian and Commercial Vernacular architecture. Today this is a popular place to hang out with friends, to get a drink in one of many bars, to enjoy a great cuisine and to have fun at clubs.

You can find our models >>HERE<<.
